"If I hadn’t run away, I would be married by now, tending goats out in the nowhere. I want to be a teacher to encourage the other girls to fight for their education."

British Asian Trust (BAT) is a diaspora-led international development organisation, delivering high-quality programmes in South Asia.

Alongside a consortium of partners, BAT has launched LiftEd, a first-of-its-kind initiative to strengthen foundational literacy and numeracy for millions of children across India. LiftEd was conceptualised during Covid-19 to address the catastrophic learning losses that children faced as a result of prolonged school closures.

Atlassian and Ruangguru team up to launch the Digital Bootcamp to reduce employment among out-of-school young people

The Foundation collaborates with Ruangguru to support their Digital Bootcamp. The bootcamp aims to reduce unemployment and increase university uptake among out-of-school young people through access to test prep materials, dedicated tutoring and pathways planning. The collaboration focuses on supporting Ruangguru’s operations, planning for sustainability, and expanding Ruangguru’s partnership with Vocational Centres, Learning Centres and Online Training for Employability Skills.

Teaming Up with Atlassians to improve experience of out-of-school young people

Three Atlassians - Irene Ongkowidjaja, Senior Product Manager, Alana Yick, Designer, and Gerry Tan, Software Developer - worked with Ruangguru to conduct an audit to improve the app experience of students as they use Ruangguru’s digital mobile platform.

In their interface evaluation, the team detected areas that can be a challenge for students using the app. The team made comprehensive recommendations to Ruangguru’s engineering team after a deep dive into the platform.

This project leveraged both technical skills and language skills, as Sydney-based volunteers Gerry, and Irene both speak and read Bahasa Indonesia, the language of the Ruangguru platform.
